The organization values accuracy, confidentiality, accountability, and a consistent employee experience. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with Human Resources and Finance in a trusted, visible role. About The Role The Payroll Specialist will manage recurring payroll activities from start to finish, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on schedule. The role supports hourly and salaried employees across multiple states and requires careful attention to timekeeping, deductions, benefits, reporting, and regulatory requirements. You will review payroll information, investigate discrepancies, maintain records, and help ensure that payroll practices comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws. This is an individual-contributor position with meaningful ownership rather than responsibility for only one step of the process. The successful candidate will partner with employees and internal stakeholders to resolve questions, support audits, and strengthen payroll procedures. Compensation for this opportunity is $29 to $33 per hour. Qualifications Candidates should bring at least three years of hands-on payroll processing experience, including experience supporting payroll in multiple states. A working knowledge of federal and state wage and hour requirements is important, along with familiarity with payroll platforms such as ADP, Paylocity, or UKG. Strong Excel skills are required to review data, reconcile information, and support accurate reporting. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, discreet, and comfortable handling sensitive employee and company information. You should be able to manage recurring deadlines, identify inconsistencies, communicate clearly, and follow through on questions or issues. A high school diploma is required; an associate or bachelor’s degree is a plus. Responsibilities Process multi-state payroll accurately and on schedule for hourly and salaried employees. Review and audit timekeeping records, including regular hours, overtime, paid time off, and shift differentials, and follow up on missing or inconsistent information. Administer payroll-related garnishments, deductions, benefit elections, and 401(k) contributions while maintaining accurate supporting records. Reconcile payroll registers and prepare payroll journal entries for the general ledger. Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local wage and hour requirements, and prepare and reconcile quarterly and annual payroll filings, including W-2s. Respond to employee questions about pay, deductions, and payroll records, resolving discrepancies with professionalism and appropriate confidentiality. Support internal and external audits, workers’ compensation reporting, and payroll documentation requests. Work with Human Resources and Finance to address process questions and contribute to payroll system improvements, data quality, and efficient procedures. Benefits This opportunity offers a stable work environment with consistent company growth and no history of layoffs. The schedule is predictable outside payroll processing days, and the position provides direct ownership of the payroll cycle. You will work in a high-visibility role alongside HR and Finance leadership, with the potential to grow toward a Payroll Lead or Payroll Manager position as the organization expands.
