Senior Backend Engineer

Bynow is building the financial operating system for B2B payments, covering invoicing, payables, embedded BNPL, and AI powered decisioning. We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer with deep PHP and Laravel experience to help build backend systems that are scalable, secure and reliable. This role suits an engineer who thinks in architecture, not only endpoints. You make sound technical calls, keep performance and code quality high, and use modern AI development tools to get more done. Stack: PHP, Laravel, MySQL What you’ll do Design, build and maintain backend applications in PHP and Laravel Build secure, well-structured REST APIs and services Design relational schemas and tune complex MySQL queries Integrate payment gateways, ERP systems, notification services and other third-party APIs Work with queues, scheduled jobs, caching, events, listeners, observers and background processing Trace production issues to their root cause Improve application performance, database performance and API response times Keep code clean, reusable and testable Write unit, feature and integration tests Review code and help set engineering standards Shape system architecture and technical decisions Maintain solid logging, monitoring and error handling Work closely with frontend, mobile, DevOps, product and business teams Support deployments and production environments when needed What you bring Strong professional experience with PHP and Laravel Solid grasp of OOP, SOLID, design patterns and clean code Advanced Laravel knowledge: Eloquent, Query Builder, Service Container, Middleware, Events, Jobs, Queues, Policies, Observers and Notifications Strong MySQL skills, including schema design, indexing, query optimization and transactions Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs Good understanding of authentication, authorization, and application and API security Hands-on experience with Redis, caching, queues and background jobs Comfort with Git workflows and code review A track record of debugging complex production issues Experience working in Linux environments Familiarity with CI/CD and modern deployment workflows The ability to take a requirement, analyze it and propose a sound technical solution on your own How we use AI We expect our engineers to use AI tools as part of how they build software, and to use them responsibly.
