About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Landscape Design Manager to lead and manage our landscape design team, overseeing the complete design process from initial concept development through technical design development, detailed shop drawings, irrigation design coordination, and site implementation.
The ideal candidate combines strong creative and design capabilities with extensive technical knowledge and practical execution experience. This individual must be able to translate design concepts into coordinated, technically sound, and construction-ready packages while managing team performance, project deliverables, and design quality.
The role requires a professional who understands both the artistic and technical aspects of landscape architecture and can lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality projects aligned with Plinth + Partners’ standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design Leadership & Concept Development
* Lead the landscape design process across residential, commercial, hospitality, and mixed-use projects.
* Develop and review landscape concepts, master plans, mood boards, material palettes, and design presentations.
* Establish clear design direction and ensure consistency across all project stages.
* Review and approve design proposals to ensure aesthetic quality, functionality, sustainability, and alignment with client requirements.
* Coordinate landscape design with architectural, interior, structural, and MEP disciplines.
2. Design Development & Technical Documentation
* Lead the transition from schematic design and concept approval to detailed design development and construction documentation.
* Review and approve landscape layouts, grading plans, levels, sections, elevations, hardscape details, and material specifications.
* Oversee the preparation and coordination of detailed landscape shop drawings, construction details, setting-out drawings, and technical specifications.
* Ensure that all drawings are accurate, coordinated, buildable, and suitable for site execution.
* Resolve design and technical conflicts before construction and coordinate with relevant technical teams.
3. Irrigation & Planting Design
* Oversee irrigation design, including irrigation layouts, zoning, pipe networks, sprinkler and drip systems, valve locations, and coordination with water sources and pumping systems where applicable.
* Review irrigation calculations, technical selections, and drawings to ensure system efficiency and compatibility with planting requirements.
* Lead planting design, including plant selection, planting plans, schedules, quantities, and specifications.
* Ensure plant selections are suitable for local climatic conditions, water availability, soil conditions, and long-term maintenance requirements.
* Coordinate irrigation and planting requirements with grading, drainage, lighting, and hardscape design.
4. Team Management & Department Leadership
* Manage, guide, and develop the landscape design team, including designers, technical draftspeople, and relevant specialists.
* Allocate resources, assign responsibilities, and monitor team productivity and deliverables.
* Establish quality-control procedures and internal design-review standards.
* Review team output, provide technical guidance, and ensure compliance with project requirements and deadlines.
* Coordinate with project managers, technical office teams, procurement, estimation, and site execution teams.
* Identify training needs and continuously improve the department’s technical capabilities and design standards.
5. Site Coordination & Execution Support
* Coordinate with site teams to ensure the approved design intent is maintained throughout execution.
* Review site conditions, technical queries, material submissions, and proposed design changes.
* Conduct site visits when required to inspect workmanship, verify design compliance, and resolve technical issues.
* Support value engineering and material selection without compromising design quality.
* Contribute to as-built documentation, operation and maintenance requirements, and project handover packages.
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Urban Design, or a closely related discipline.
* Significant professional experience in landscape design, technical design development, and landscape execution.
* Proven experience managing a landscape design team or leading a landscape design department.
* Strong portfolio demonstrating concept design, detailed landscape development, hardscape detailing, planting design, and technical documentation.
